Göbekli Tepe archaeological site photographed in 2015, contextual view rather than the newly reported burials

Archaeology Magazine reported newly studied intact burials at Göbekli Tepe on September 25. Researchers led by Julia Gresky examined graves dated to roughly 8700–8000 BCE, adding evidence to a site previously known for scattered human bone fragments.

The findings offer new ways to examine burial practices and whether people lived at the site as well as gathering there for rituals. The researchers discuss more than one explanation for the scattered remains, including disturbance and natural movement. Our photograph shows the actual site in 2015, not the newly reported graves.
