Gallup reported on August 26 that 78% of Americans said the government knows more about UFOs than it tells the public. The findings came from its July 1–19 poll, providing a measure of public attitudes during the continuing release of government records.

That belief differs from believing the objects are alien spacecraft: 37% selected that explanation for at least some sightings. The distinction matters when discussing disclosure. The poll measures what people think about information and origins; it does not establish what any government agency has withheld.
